Myripristis vittata

Silvery with thin dark red to blackish stripes and translucent dorsal fin without distinguishing marks.

Forms large aggregations in caves and ledges of steep drop-offs in 15-80m; often in small groups and sometimes forms large schools. Benthopelagic. Individual is often swimming upside down, even when mixed in schools of non-inverted ones. Nocturnal and feeds on plankton.

Known from Flores. Museum: Hitu, Ambon. Also recorded from Raja Ampat Islands, Bali, Komodo, Manado and vicinity, Sangalakki Island, Togean and Banggai Islands and Pulau Weh; with an Indonesian distribution from Moluccas to Sumatra
